I have seen lately that Newgrounds has been automatically imposing the A rating on some of my illustrations. So far there have been 2 illustrations that have been affected by this change. The first one was somewhat justified, it was called “soul courtship”, since it did show explicitly naked characters, although at that time it was put as M rating, due to a confusion I had about the rating.
However, with the second one, which was “Mi Pequeño Lamento”, I thought it was a bit unusual that they assigned that category to that image. In the drawing you can appreciate a very graphic scenario in terms of violence, something that would simply merit an M rating, with the only detail that the female character, who was dying, you could barely see half of her bust (I emphasize, she was wearing clothes and was not naked). The rest of her body was only decorated with wounds and sores, not explicitly showing details such as exposed genitals, only half of her nipples were poorly shown. Still, suddenly the rating of my drawing went to +18.
Based on this problem, I started to think about how to manage the scope of my works, and now I think it would be better from now on to be a little more cautious with those works of a more mature tone, even if they are not of a sexual nature.
What does this mean? Meaning, there will be more censorship in terms of bodily details and I will be more cautious with other “suggestive” aspects. That being said, I hope you can thus understand how my direction will be regarding my M-rated illustrations.
In practical terms, there is no way to reverse this inconvenience, after all, I am not the one who administers the platform, nor do I set the guidelines for behavior and use of the site. Now, you will have to accept the way the rules work on the platform regardless of how they are made. It will always be wiser to adapt.
From my personal opinion, if it seems a bit exaggerated to me to restrict an illustration just for some half exposed nipples xd, there are plenty of works of all kinds that show more than what is seen in my illustrations and they are not exclusively for adults, and I mean outside of newgrounds. It's not for me to know the reasons why they are stricter about that now.
